Steve Giasson is a conceptual artist with a PhD in Art Studies and Practices from the Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM), whose work is characterized by a great simplicity of means and the use of a variety of media, including performance art, photography, painting, drawing, sculpture, and writing. His engaging, deadpan practice draws on pre-existing artworks or historical or everyday fragments, which he makes his own in a variety of ways, in order to challenge romantic notions of authenticity and originality, and re-examine creative processes and the figure of the artist.

Steve Giasson’s work has been shown in fourteen countries in North America, Europe and Asia, in a dozen solo exhibitions and numerous group shows, including Liverpool Biennial (Liverpool, 2012), Text Festival (Manchester, 2011 and 2014)), ED RUSCHA BOOKS & Co. at Museum Brandhorst (Munich, 2013) and Gagosian Gallery (New York, 2013; Paris, 2015; Beverly Hills, 2016) and Morni Hills Performance Art Biennale II (Morni Hills and Chandigarh, India, 2018). In 2022, he signed his first curatorial contract with the exhibition Le lendemain de l’incendie / The Day After the Fire, presented at Centre des arts actuels Skol (Montreal). Steve Giasson is represented by Edmund Felson Gallery (Berlin) and Galerie Laroche/Joncas (Montreal).
