Michael A. Robinson lives and works in Montreal. As a multidisciplinary artist, his practice is oriented towards the production of sculptural installations, drawings, molded works and images. Over time, his projects have examined the creative gesture, its conditions of emergence and the artist’s position in relation to the conventions of the art world. Using formal and conceptual approaches, his work is reflexive and critical. He deliberately plays with the mixing and juxtaposition of creative strategies related to modernism and contemporary art. Since 2007, Robinson has taught sculpture and drawing in the visual and media arts department at UQAM, and in 2016-2017 was artist-in-residence and professor of visual arts at Concordia University (Montreal). Robinson holds a BFA from Concordia University and an MFA from Université de Paris 1 – Panthéon-Sorbonne.

Recent solo exhibitions include Somma, at DISPLAY, Parma (Italy), The Shape of This is the Shape of That at Shazar Gallery, Naples (Italy) and Mass Flow at Gallery Patrick Mikhail, Montreal (Quebec), all presented in 2022. In 2019, he presented The Object as Evidence, SL Gallery, New York (U.S.A.), and in 2018 The Gift of Oblivion at Diagonale, Montreal (Quebec). Finally, we can highlight his exhibitions Either/And, which was presented in 2016 at ArtHelix, Brooklyn (U.S.A.) and Black Period, at L’Oeil de Poisson, Québec. His most recent group shows include, in 2021, Salvific held at Musée d’art de Joliette (Québec) and ABSTRAKSHN, at Gallery Patrick Mikhail, Montréal (Québec). In 2020, he participated in Spring Break Art Show (New York City), and in 2016 in Other Worlds, Washington Project for the Arts, in Washington (D.C.). His work can be found in numerous public and private collections, including the Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal, the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec and the Canada Council Art Bank.
