Michael A. Robinson teaches sculpture and drawing at UQAM’s Department of Visual and Media Arts (2004-present) and recently as full-time Artist in Residence at Concordia University (MFA Sculpture, 2016-2017). He holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Concordia University (Montréal), and a Masters of Fine Arts from Université de Paris 1 – Panthéon-Sorbonne (Paris).

 

Michael Robinson is a multidisciplinary artist and producer of sculptural installations who’s work examines the creative gesture, its conditions of emergence, and the position of the artist in face of art world conventions. He has been represented by leading galleries such as Pierre-François Ouellette, Parisian Laundry, and Galerie Antoine Ertaskiran. Recent solo exhibitions include, Either/And (2016), which was presented at ArtHelix, Brooklyn, New York and Black Period, (2015), at L’Oeil de Poisson, Québec. Group shows include Other Worlds (2016), at the Washington Project for the Arts, Washington, and Dyphthong (2015), at the Shirley Fiterman Gallery, New York. His works are part of numerous public and private collections, such as Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal, the Musée nationale des beaux-arts du Québec, and the Canada Council Art Bank. He lives and works in Montréal.

 

Michael work titled Coroporate Logos (2017), continues a recent trajectory of printed-paper works that relate to the proliferation of digital formats and jpeg culture in the visual arts. Corporate Logos (2017), explores the horizon of the image as an object, and the impact of the internet on contemporary object oriented sculpture.
