After attending the École des beaux-arts de Montréal, Pierre Granche completed a Brevet spécialisé en enseignement des arts plastiques (diploma in visual arts education) and a Diplôme d’Études Approfondies (DEA) in visual arts at Université Paris 8 (1976-1977). In addition to teaching, he served as an expert in study committees regarding the integration of art into architecture. He pursued this theme in his work, particularly by favouring in situ techniques and surrounding himself with work teams (students, engineers, architects, etc.) that played an active role in preparing his installations. He exhibited his work in solo shows as well as through collaborative events, such as the International Environmental Sculpture Symposium of Chicoutimi in 1980 and Aurora Borealis, organized by Les cent jours d’art contemporain de Montréal in 1985. He completed numerous major works integrated into architecture, including Comme si le temps…de la rue at the Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal (1992); Totem urbain/Histoire en dentelles at the McCord Museum (Montreal, 1992); Conductivité/réciprocité/circularité at the Saint-Eustache medical centre (1994); Assertion/Mémoire/insertion at the Bibliothèque nationale du Québec (1983); Canada Memorial in Green Park (London, 1994); and Témoignage-projection-passage, located at the Canadian Embassy in Belgrade.
